A coil ram, coil mandrel, coil boom or roll prong supports a coil through its central opening. This custom-built example shows an orange mandrel and backplate with a carriage mounting. The coil is shown with its axis horizontal. The final dimensions, rated load and mounting are agreed for each application.

The load path runs from the coil through the mandrel and backplate into the truck carriage. We define this complete interface before finalising the design. Share your drawings and operating requirements so we can develop the geometry, connections and mounting with you.

Operating requirementsThe attachment and forklift must be assessed as one system. Confirm residual truck capacity, load centre, attachment weight and the operating limits for the selected configuration. Confirm the coil orientation and restraint method before selecting a ram.

Which names are used for this equipment?
Coil ram and coil mandrel are common English terms. Coil boom and roll prong are also used. In Dutch it is a coildoorn or draagdoorn; in German, a Coildorn or Tragdorn. Always specify the load and mounting, because names alone do not define the design.
Is this an expanding mandrel or an uncoiler?
No. The illustrated product is a fixed handling mandrel for a forklift. It is not an expanding mandrel, powered uncoiler or rotating coil manipulator. Tell us if gripping, rotating or unwinding is part of your process.
Can the mounting be customised?
Yes. Carriage-mounted hook-type or pin-type interfaces and fork-mounted configurations can be discussed. Send the truck model and interface drawing; the illustrated mounting is one example.
What capacity can I order?
Capacity and dimensions are specified per project. We need the maximum coil weight, coil dimensions and working conditions. Attachment capacity and the residual capacity of the forklift must both suit the actual load centre.
When should I choose a coil ram rather than a C-hook?
A forklift coil ram is considered where the truck can enter the horizontal coil eye. A crane-operated C-hook uses a different lifting interface. Access, coil orientation and the available lifting equipment determine the choice.
